       The Club des Jeunes pour la Correspondance et l'Amitié (C.J.C.A.) in partnership with the International Association of Charities (A.I.C.-TOGO) organize, as part of their social and humanitarian activities and support for bottom-up development, international volunteer work camps where men and women of all ages and varied backgrounds come together to use their knowledge for the construction and development of Togo.
Because of the socio-political and economic turbulence currently besetting the developing countries, the theme for this year?s program is LA FRATERNITE UNIVERSELLE [Universal Brotherhood].
The C.J.C.A. is using this theme to urge the whole world to come together in love and fraternity, to learn about one another and to make peace reign on the planet Earth that we all share. Opportunities for participants: International development Rural and agricultural initiatives Teach English Teach French Volunteer work Learn about another country Music / art / culture Work experience/internship Personal development Reforestation, building a school, public library or bridge. Teach mathematics, physics, english, french or general knowledge.
Eligibility criteria: Other:
- To be sent by an association or any other organization active in the field.
- Be a young volunteer who loves to travel. - Have attended preparation sessions before the start of the field session. - Undertake not to leave the work site before the end of the scheduled period.
- Agree to work five hours each day. - Agree to live in a community.
- Agree to prepare a detailed report for his/her association, which will forward it to the C.J.C.A. The report will deal with various aspects of the stay: welcome,working conditions, personal impressions, suggestions and proposals.
- By signing the contract attached to the registration form, undertake to abide by the C.J.C.A.?s work rules and structures.
- Pay the Togolese entry visa, if necessary (make enquiries before departure).
Destination: Plateau Region of southern Togo; Togo Duration: 3 weeks Accommodation: Work camp or Togolese family in a village or town Accommodation characteristics: All the camp sites will report to C.J.C.A. headquarters in Lomé.
Volunteers are therefore required to go through Lomé. Furthermore, favourable conditions have been obtained for our volunteers: If they wish, volunteers can arrive two days before the start of work activities; they will be looked after by C.J.C.A. Volunteers can ask to stay with a Togolese family in a village or a town after leaving the camp, or they can pay the sum of 50,000 francs to the club to extend their stay by one week. Selection process: To have registered and paid the registration fee before departure. Special outreach to: Teachers Youth Target educational level: Enrolled in high school / CEGEP High school / CEGEP graduate Enrolled in community college College graduate Enrolled in university University graduate University post-graduate researcher Services provided: Local transportation Volunteers will wait for you at the Lome-Tokoin's airport and will drive you in the association's place where you will spend a few days before leaving for the village Agou, at 110 km from Lome. Unique features: Participation fees are compulsory for all volunteers. They are payable at the start of each work session. Participation and registration fees are paid to the C.J.C.A. treasury before departure for the camp. There is no refund, even in the case of non-participation. Fees are set as follows: Togolese students 15,000 FCFA; Togolese wage-earners 25,000 FCFA; European volunteers 200,000 FCFA (2,000 FF); American volunteers 300,000 FCFA (US$450)

- people are free to organize fund-raising or equipment-collection activities under the auspices of associations, organizations or foundations in support of the activities planned at the site of their choice. To register at a second site, participants will pay only ¾ of the participation fees. Session information: Session 1 Start date: July 15, 2001 End date: August 06, 2001 Application deadline: June 18, 2001 Session 2 Start date: August 19, 2001 End date: August 30, 2001 Application deadline: June 18, 2001 Participating at a work site does not mean only working with one?s hands or preparing a menu; it does not mean simply doing the daily chores of getting the water, cooking or maintaining the premises. It also means discovering the customs and mores of the places where the sites are located. At all our work sites, the volunteers work during the morning; the afternoons and weekends are reserved for recreational and cultural activities, including hikes, excursions, visits to tourist sites, meetings, dances, sports activities, etc.
