The Global Education Program

Here is a chance to do something different this summer.
The Global Education Program announces an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to learn a little French while being immersed in Coriscan culture.
From JUNE 24 TO JULY 8, 2001 the village of Poggio de Venaco is hosting a summer learn and work project for international volunteers. Poggio de Venaco is a mountain village of 150 inhabitants located on the island of Corsica.
This is the first time the municipality is hosting a workcamp. They are very keen to welcome international volunteers.
There has been little economic development and people have been leaving the village in search of jobs.
The municipality has looked to tourism as a means of creating income for the community. In order to attract tourists, the municipality has been working to protect the habitat from further destruction from fires and pollution and building trails and accomodations for the tourists. This summer the municipality wants to promote fishing tourism.
Volunteers will assist municipal workers in cleaning the river banks and building swimming and picnic areas along the river. A botanic path will be opened to allow the discovery of major plant species.
Here is an opportunity to learn about a way of life that is centered on shepparding and tourism. You will met with and discuss issues of tourism, the sheppards way of life, habitat restoration and development, fisheries development with representatives of the municipality and the University of Corsica.
Accomodations will be in a village chateau; meals will be served by the camp hosts.
